Our story.

ASEC has held a goal of opening a community-based veterinary blood bank for many years now. But it was in 2024, when our industry was met with a nation-wide shortage of readily available veterinary blood products, that we began bringing this goal to life.

As we set the foundation of the blood bank itself, we began screening our own personal pets to assure they met the requirements to safely donate. Each time we collected blood from them, we worked on developing our techniques for producing high-quality, life-saving blood products like packed red blood cells and fresh frozen plasma, which we then use to treat critically ill patients here at ASEC. We recently began inviting families who do not work here at ASEC to volunteer their pets to become blood donors as well, as the final step to achieving a “community-based” model.

Throughout this developmental phase we have simultaneously been working to get our blood bank registered with the California Department of Food and Agriculture, so that we may also distribute our products to our local veterinary community as well. We hope to open our doors in 2026!

Meet the Team

With decades of combined experience in the veterinary field as well as working here at ASEC, our blood bank team makes sure our donors are safe and the products we produce are of the highest quality.
